US Marines - Scrambling to become artistic

Thursday, March 29, 2007 in My Opinions and Rantings (Views: 2300)
Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James T. Conway announced last week the following:

"Some Marines have taken the liberty of tattooing themselves to a point that is contrary to our professional demeanor and the high standards America has come to expect from us. I believe tattoos of an excessive nature do not represent our traditional values."

Whereas this is a direct order and is enforced under the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), I do take issue with this order. I personally do not have any "body art" as it is described, but many Marines use body art to describe things such as deployment dates, remember fallen soliders, etc. This is all coming at a time when other branches are loosening their policies, ironically.
