The Mark of The Beast

Tuesday, September 02, 2008 in Technical Articles (Views: 5296)
I cannot believe that I actually promoted this concept, but what is this world coming to?

A question came across, asking what the "Next Big Thing" would be. Here is my answer:

There is nothing new under the sun. I've seen a lot of "next big things" that people barely remember at all anymore, if they at all remember.

I would say what is coming is something that protects identity from theft and can be taken anywhere. Almost like PKI - you have a public and private key. This would be a second form of identification that could protect its possessor from fraud.

This is an interesting concept, but was I mentioning the "Mark of the Beast" that is known in Biblical Prophecy?

As a Christian, you would think I'm a heretic for bringing this up. In case you are wondering, being called the "Devil's Disciple" does lose meaning after you've heard it enough times. Biblical prophecy dictates that this mark would be on the hand or forehead, and would be a means of identification. Without it, you would not be able to make transactions or purchase things. Essentially without it, you're a vagrant.

So, what is a big problem that is attacking people as a whole - well, identity theft. Look at events such as Katrina, people who literally survived with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

How do you combat identity theft? Well, much like you could on a computer, using dual factored authentication. What is this? It's a second form of identification.

Much like the concept of PKI, you have a public key (say a credit card) and a private key (some secondary type of identification you could not lose, something that's on you). It could be as easy as a fingerprint, or a chip that can be scanned inside your hand.

Now, I am not promoting the concept, or am I? I would encourage all of you to run from identification placed in the hand or forehead as Biblical prophecy promises eternal damnation for anyone who takes the mark. Oh yeah, missed one tiny little piece of information - this also means the world is coming to an end.

Do I see this mark coming? I do, and in my lifetime. Technology is advancing so rapidly that it's not unthinkable that in 25 years this could be implemented.
