Bin Laden is dead

Monday, May 02, 2011 in My Opinions and Rantings (Views: 2141)
Seems to be a lot going on for a Monday morning. Many of us woke up to the news, having to clear our eyes and take a second look, that Osama Bin Laden is dead by a headshot thanks to special forces.

As best I understand it, this was an operation that the US did without Pakistan's knowledge, since for 10 years we've been chasing someone that seemingly has been slippery, always a step ahead of us. There is little doubt in my mind that he had help. Who exactly helped? It's almost a "take your pick" really. But, with Pakistan's stellar record of truth telling and wanting to keep free US money while pretending to be friends, they would be a prime suspect. Unfortunately, they aren't the only country that plays this game.

The body has been dumped at sea, so that no shrine or pilgrimage would be set for him. There was questioning as to how the US would prove a clean kill, so that we don't sink to the level of most bottom feeding countries like Pakistan. They decided on hand to hand combat - so we'll see what the actual proof is.

The reaction in DC and New York was amazing. Huge crowds gathered, American flags everywhere, lots of pride, joy, and happiness. For once, I don't think we saw divisions created between right and left, it was just Americans rejoicing together.

The reaction from the rest of the world? Don't care. I'm sure some pissed off muslims will threaten to blow up things. I've spent enough time on them.

Today is a great day for America, but still a lot more work to do, like fixing the budget which seems to be much harder than a single headshot.
