Creating groups and adding users to it in Linux

Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in Linux (Views: 306)
A quick blog on creating groups and adding users. In an earlier blog, we discussed adding users. Now, for groups.

The command is simple: groupadd

We'll create a group called testgroup:
groupadd testgroup

That is it, literally.

Now, to add a user called user1 to the group:
usermod -a -G testgroup user1

This will go into append mode with the group name.

How do you tell what members are in testgroup?
grep testgroup /etc/group
