Excel: Subtract Minutes from Time

Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in Technical Articles (Views: 1069)
So, you have a spreadsheet and you're trying to log time entries, say for work. You work 8:00 to 4:30 and get a half hour for lunch. How do you calculate this in Excel?

1. Create a spreadsheet, and put this in column A: 8:00:00 AM
2. Put this in Column B: 4:30:00 PM
3. Format columns A, B, and C to a time column.
4. Then, add this formula to Column C:

Notice that column C is now at 8 hours, which is the difference in A and B, less a half hour (obviously the -30 in the formula does this).

Hope this helps someone else, for those of us who are not Excel fans.
