Annoying error creating x64 MDT Boot Images

Friday, February 03, 2017 in System Center (Views: 1361)
So, a quick blog on creating x64 boot images, this doesn't for some reason apply to x86. Now, you don't need a 64-bit boot WIM if you're deploying the Windows 32 bit OS, but the 32 bit can deploy both 32 and 64 bit.

You do need to, however, have a 64 bit boot WIM available if you are secure booting over PXE or entirely a x64 environment.

The error does come up ("not able to add file to extract:") - that it's unable to find in the dism.log. If you're lucky, you'll see an error or crash in front of your face that the DISM process stopped responding.

To fix this...
1. Run this command: dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~
Note this will take a while, and stay at 100% for some time. Be patient.
2. Reboot when prompted
3. Run this command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
4. Lastly, run this: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
5. Reinstall KB2919355 and other patches
