SCCM 2007 and SQL 2012, RTFM

Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in System Center (Views: 3602)
When the strange and unexplainable happens in SCCM, I notice that usually it's an issue with security software. Not, however in this case, more an issue with RTFM.

Saw in the status messages, about 100,000 messages backlogged. I noticed in the distmgr.log, a whole bunch of these entries (time/date and other info stripped)...

1. *** [42000][102][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '99900'. : PkgStatus_ins_upd SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 8092 (0x1F9C)
2. *** [42000][102][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '99901'. : PkgStatus_ins_upd SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 8092 (0x1F9C)
3. Cannot save the initial package status to the data source. SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 8092 (0x1F9C)
4. Error occurred. SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 8092 (0x1F9C)
5. Performing error cleanup prior to returning. SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 8092 (0x1F9C)

The 99900 and 99901 are status message IDs. These are heading towards the database, running the stored procedure "PkgStatus_ins_upd"

What I found was that the database was somehow upgraded to SQL 2012. Whereas this is supported on SCCM 2007 SP2 / R3, it requires 2 hotfixes which were not installed...

Once these were installed, the errors all went away.
